Road widening projects | government projects

I was walking on my way home. Until, I passed by here. This location is at Dungon B, near the exit of CPU 7th gate. I remembered that this very same spot was where we ate "batchoy" owned by Manong. Here you could listen to the religious songs played by him. He was really nice. He always gave us free extra "sabaw" even if we haven't asked to. That's why Manong has a lot of customers. His "batchoyan" was small then when he first opened it, hardly could accomodate 10 people. If this is possible then you'd be eating elbow to elbow with the person sitting next to you. He also served "Halo-halo" with yummy ube. I loved it and keep coming back for more. Those memories were just so oozing to the heart.

Now, it's just another sad story. All was left of it was this empty space and I wondered, "Where will I eat "batchoy"? I'm starving." It’s just sad. I never saw Manong ever again.

On my way further on, I saw people from afar looking at something. As I turned my head, I saw this bulldozer. All I can think of is, "Hey, there's the yellow dragon who destroyed my favorite "batchoyan". I joked around about it. Noticing the mother holding her child on her lap (found at the bottom right of the picture), I pondered, "Was this place where their home once stood?".

Then, all came back to me. How about Manong? Where is his whereabouts? Haven't seen him for awhile. Not like before, I would wave back at him everytime I meet him at the roadside. I felt sad.

"Is this another road widening project?", I asked myself.

The road seems fine and vehicles could pass through even before this project. Why do they have to make the road even more wider? Traffic is not a problem here anyway. I was really disappointed but I never understood this project anyway. Maybe it's for the better... or not!

It was not then I really got to be disappointed until I reached this ad or whatever you may call it.
"Dalan Padulong sa Bwas Damlag, Ululupod Naton Amligan" it states.

How could it be for a better future? How could people be a part of it when they were driven away from their homes just for this project? Anyway, traffic wasn't so bad in this part of Iloilo. I really don't get it. Could someone explain the basis for this project? Or maybe I'll just do my research.

I just felt sad for Manong and his batchoyan. It was really great to have a place so we could stop over and have a snack
